My review:

Freya and her Aunt Carole seek to investigate the suspicious death of their friend and mentor, an antiques dealer in a Suffolk village.

There are letters and diaries to decipher, antiques weekends to attend, and fakes and frauds to uncover. And the lure of the Martin Brothers Bird, a rare and much sought-after antiquity, to explore.

The detective duo are two feisty females, one in her 40s at the crossroads of her life, the other in her 70s still seeking adventure.

This is a light, entertaining and informative murder mystery which appeals on many levels, not least with its rural Suffolk setting, based on an amalgamation of Long Melford and Hadleigh.

It's written by debut novelist Cara Miller whose credential for this subject is that she is the daughter of the late antiques expert, Judith Miller. I had the pleasure of hosting Judith at an event at Seckford Hall Hotel several years ago and she was fabulous. Her daughter is also very lovely and I visited her at home for an article which will appear in Suffolk magazine next month.
