A fun, nostalgic adventure with beautiful illustrations and clues to solve, on a royal steam train. What isn't there to like about this book for readers aged eight and above?!

My review:

Harrison Beck (Hal) has been packed off by his parents on a train trip with his Uncle Nat.

It should be the trip of a lifetime, but Hal isn't keen. His uncle is a travel writer and he's taking Hal with him on an assignment to write about the royal steam train, The Highland Falcon, travelling from London to Scotland.

It's a beautiful nostalgic ride for train lovers but there are no other children aboard and Hal is given a shirt and bow tie to wear in order to fit in.

As the journey progresses, though, things get more interesting as a priceless brooch goes missing and it's clear that a thief is in their midst. What's more, Hal isn't the only child aboard. He soon meets the stowaway, and daughter of the engine driver, Lenny, and together they try to hunt down and capture the criminal. Not before Hal comes under suspicion himself.

This is a fantastic read. A charming, quirky, fast-paced adventure, and it's the start of a series of 'Adventures on Trains'. Brilliant and fun!
