The Sharp Edge of a Snow Flake
by Sif Sigmarsdottir

I read that this book was inspired by the impact of the work of investigative journalist Carole Cadwallader exposing the role of Cambridge Analytica in working with Facebook, influencing politics in the UK and USA.

Two young women from Britain both find themselves in Iceland.

Hannah has been expelled from school so has to go an live with her father who is a journalist in Iceland. He engages her as an intern to keep her out of mischief, little realising she would get so involved in the stories they are reporting.

Imogen is a social media influencer speaking at a conference. She has one life online and another in the real world. And she works for a marketing company which she realises is using underhand means for commercial gain.

A man's body is discovered in the bleak Icelandic landscape and Hannah and Imogen both become involved in the investigation to his death, in very different ways.

The characters were well drawn, there was a good pace to the action, and the theme gave the story weight. But I didn't feel the necessity to naming Imogen's marketing company London Analytica. That seemed a bit too close to the mark, and unnecessary? Overall, a fabulous read.
