My review:

This RSPB book has been written by its president and tv presenter Miranda Krestovnikoff and boasts the distinctive and mesmerising illustrations of Angela Harding, offering a marvellous insight into birds worldwide.

Covering all types of birds, in every aspect of their lives and the habitats in which they thrive, this is a stunning large format book. It excels in the detail of information included but also its aesthetic appeal.

There is information about seabirds, flightless birds, tropical birds, passerines and birds of prey, as well as sections on feathers, beaks, eyes and nests, migration and birdsong. And it culminates with descriptions of how birds cope in extreme cold and in urban settings.

You learn how to tell when an owl hunts by the colour of its eyes, and how a secretary bird kills its prey by kicking with its legs. You'll find out how birds sing, and what exactly is a passerine?

Every page is rich with illustration from the wonderful Angela Harding.

This is a beautiful gift for anyone aged seven upwards.
