This is a wonderful story to help children (aged four upwards) cope with the loss of a pet. The illustrations are colourful and cheering and the story is engaging and uplifting despite this sad event.

Tiger and Mae love playing together, chasing each other around the jungle and racing back home when tea is called. 

But one day Mae realises that Tiger is not as fast as she once was. She's getting old and tired. Eventually the inevitable happens.

Mae is distraught. Nothing is fun anymore. In fact she feels anger, fear and sadness as she is forced to cope with being alone.

Time passes and Mae comes to realise that Tiger hasn't completely gone - she lives through pictures and memories, and through the jungle itself.

This is a beautiful book with a powerful message of hope and consolation. It's the debut of Harriet Howe, a Suffolk writer who has her second book out in time for Christmas - more about that soon. The illustrations are by Katie Cottle who has been nominated for Waterstones and Carnegie prizes.
