This is a beautiful, sensual book. There are insightful descriptions of the artistic process, vibrant presentations of the colours and smells of food and paint, and the pulsing heat of the summer and a luxuriant landscape. 

It also gives a compelling picture of how women were perceived and treated in the art world. It's a fascinating and consuming novel.
