I've read a number of biographies of the Brontes over the years, though my favourite is Charlotte, followed by Anne. There hasn't been so much to say about Emily because most of her papers were destroyed after her death. But this biography is timely, with the recent film 'Wuthering Heights' introducing Emily to a new audience. 

Emily was just 27 when she started writing her masterpiece. She died three years later. 

She's remembered as the strangest of the Bronte sisters and out of step with her time. She was wild, fierce and determined.

Lutz tells us of the countryside and the community in which Emily grew up, the social and political situation and some of the other notable individuals living at the time. She also stresses the challenges facing the Brontes as they sought to get their work published. 

And this is a very readable and fascinating account of Emily and the life of her family. I very much enjoyed it and it was good to be reminded of the lives of these extraordinary women.
