Details for 'Where are you Eddie?' by Michael Rosen and illustrated by Gill Smith
Where are you Eddie?

The much-loved poet, writer and presenter celebrates his 80th birthday this year (2026) and a number of new books will be released. This one is a poignant story of how Michael coped with the death of his son, Eddie.
This beautifully illustrated book for young readers explains how when the author's son Eddie died of meningitis aged just 18, Michael didn't know how to cope with his grief, or to speak of his son to others.
Gradually, though, he realised that by visiting the places they went together, remembering things they shared and speaking to Eddie's friends and siblings, Eddie has lived on.
It's sensitively, honestly and simply told and a reminder to children, and us all, how loved ones can stay with us through sharing memories.
Michael Rosen has also written in more depth, for an older audience, about his son's death in 'Michael Rosen's Sad Book'. A former children's laureate, he has just won the 2026 Hans Christian Anderson Award for Writing.
