My review:

The author lives in Norwich and teaches and speaks throughout the area about writing in general as well as his own work. And his books are each very different, but heavily influenced by his love of poetry. The first one I read was for teenagers called 'Wild East'. This book, 'About to Fall Apart' is his most recent novel, for adults, published last month.

The story takes place over one weekend. Aidy has had a run-in at work, and wonders whether he will have a job to go back to on Monday, but for now he has plenty of other things to think about.

He is working on his entry for a creative writing competition, is spending time with his three children (from three different relationships), and he's seeking to meet his birth mother to learn more about his background, living in Ireland and being mixed heritage. He has a lot going on.

His story is told as a stream of consciousness where line breaks indicate punctuation. It's very powerful and completely enthralling, both in discovering Aidy's life, hopes and thoughts, and also about his writing experience. I loved it.
