Oakie

At school one day, Theo and his classmates are each given an acorn and told how to look after it to help it grow into a young tree.
He's thrilled with the challenge and takes it very seriously, taking it wherever he goes and naming it Oakie.
But when his mum wants to take Theo for a trip away, she tells him to leave Oakie behind. And they come back to find things are not as he'd hoped or expected.
This is a warm and charming book for young readers, with pastel illustrations throughout.
It did have rather a strange conclusion to the story for me - it felt a bit abrupt! But this is very lovely and has some author notes at the back of the book about how an acorn grows into a tree, and introducing the 1,000-year-old Bowthorpe Oak.
