Alexander McCall Smith
We are all aware that Alexander McCall Smith is a prolific storyteller, but his visit to Woodbridge this year coincided with the release of four new titles! We managed to mention all of them at this very special occasion where an audience of 85 people enjoyed lunch with the great man himself.
The event was held at the beautiful Seckford Hall Hotel and we were able to enjoy a two course meal before listening to Sandy talking to me about his latest projects.
The menu choices were roast smoked haddock with saffron risotto, chargrilled baby courgettes and a herb creme fraiche or plum tomato tart tatin, Gorgonzola cheese, roquette salad with balsamic syrup. Dessert was lemon posset with citrus shortbread biscuit or fresh fruit salad, and was followed by coffee.
For each place setting, to get us in the mood for Mma Ramotswe, I had contacted the Roibush tea company who kindly donated a pack of tea and details about their company to each person attending.
As always, Sandy was hugely entertaining. He talked about his modern retelling of Jane Austens' 'Emma', his standalone novel 'Fatty O'Leary's Dinner Party', the new addition to the No1 Ladies Detective Agency 'The Handsome Man's Deluxe Cafe' and 'A Work of Beauty: Alexander McCall Smith's Edinburgh' for the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland.
Everyone had a wonderful time, going away with lots of lovely books.
