And Now We Run
by Nicola Penfold

Jelly is joining a residential trip with her new school. She hasn't been looking forward to it because her best friend has dumped her and is making things very uncomfortable for Jelly in their friendship group.

Lincoln is also on the trip and he's been very excited at the prospect of this trip. They're going somewhere he used to visit with his brothers and he's pleased to be back in this part of the countryside.

Things go well initially, but no one had expected an extreme weather event which causes the reservoirs to burst, and for the area to be flooded. Jelly and Lincoln are separated from the group and when they return to their accommodation, everyone has been evacuated. Jelly and Lincoln are left to fend for themselves.

It's a great read. Full of pace and jeopardy, with great characterisation and a powerful message, all while celebrating the wonder and peril of the natural world.
