My book review of 'The Killing Stones' by Ann Cleeves

The Killing Stones
by Ann Cleeves

I haven't been an avid viewer of the 'Shetland' tv series, and haven't read many of the books either - Vera and her Northumberland patch has been my preference in Ann Cleeves' novels. But I was keen to read this story which takes the much-loved detective, Jimmy Perez to a new location.

He's moved to Orkney with his partner, Willow, and their young son, and there are murders to investigate here, too.

Jimmy's old childhood friend, Archie, has been discovered dead, bludgeoned by a Neolithic stone, bearing a cryptic, ancient inscription.

Despite, or because of, his links to the victim, Jimmy seeks to find the perpetrator. But the suspects are all familiar faces. And will he be in time to prevent other killings?

I'm sure fans of the 'Shetland' series of books and programmes will love this 'Orkney' series just as much. Great characters and a gripping read!
