How to fly
by Simon Barnes

This is a great read. Short chapters on a huge variety of themes, all presenting the knowledge and enthusiasm of the author, with his personal take on flying in all its forms.

He shares his own experiences of gliding and becoming a pilot, as well as his understanding of the technicalities of flight. He makes references to flight in religion, mythology, literature, poetry and the imagination as well as the wonders of the natural world.

There's just so much in here. Everything from fleas and frogs, to kangaroos, gymnasts, butterflies and pterodactyls, helicopters to balloons and airships. And he's lived in and travelled to many extraordinary places in the world, too, so draws on all those amazing locations.

It's a book to dip into and to devour as a page-turner.
