Wish You Were Here
by Jodi Picoult

Diana's life is looking great. She has her dream job as an art specialist for Sotheby's in New York, and she's about to go on holiday to the Galapagos with her boyfriend, Finn, a surgeon who looks set to propose.

But then the pandemic hits. Finn can't leave the hospital but insists she goes on the holiday without him.

She arrives on the island just as everything is shutting down, and there's no way back. She's stranded and isolated with little contact with the world she's left behind. The time causes her to reflect on what she considers important.

There are twists and turns in this novel to save it from being merely a romantic saga. Jodi Picoult never fails to bring a contemporary edge to her stories, inspired by real life events she's noticed and investigated. She's so easy to read, and the plot twist does take your breath away, with something to puzzle and ponder. I can't say more because the surprise is the thing!
