Enchanted Beach
by Esther Freud and illustrated by Emma Chinnery

Esther Freud is known, certainly in Suffolk, for her love of the coastal village of Walberswick so it should be no surprise that this is the subject of her first children's book and it certainly looks and reads as a celebration of this beautiful spot.

Told in verse, with stunning illustrations by local artist Emma Chinnery, this is a delightful book about family life by the sea.

Making sandcastles, flying kites, jumping waves, playing games, crabbing on the bridge - there's lots of fun to be had at the beach whatever the weather.

The book marks the seasons and keypoints of the year - birthdays and new year among them - and, with the passing of time, we meet the family in later years and see how the coastline has changed.

It's a lovely book. And the illustrations are just glorious - cheerful, sunny and nostalgic.
