This is the debut from an Irish author illustrator who used lithography to create this distinctive and charming picture book. It boasts retro style, a quirky story and ultimately a lovely message of resilience for young readers aged 3+.

Henny is a baby chick who is sweet and fluffy like her friends but she has a problem. She is stuck in her shell (she's also blue, but we'll overlook that). 

She can use her little legs and tiny wings but her body is definitely stuck in her shell. 

The other animals give advice and try to help Henny but nothing works, until Henny, overlooking her own problem, comes to the rescue of some chicks in trouble. 

The story concludes with a delightful message about being true to yourself and not worrying if you're different, so don't get 'stuck'! 

The illustrations are fabulous and have a real flavour of children's picture books from the 50s, reminding me of the Moomins. Aileen's second book is a wonderful and magical tale with incredible artwork but it is currently only available in Ireland, and in Irish. But look out for 'Where the Tree Dogs Fly' and for Aileen's other work in the future!
