Sarah Juggins grew up on a farm. She remembers being tasked with looking after the newly-born calves, mixing up their milk and feeding them during day and night. But she never intended to stay there. Instead she studied to be first a teacher, then a sports journalist.

Making a move from Cambridge to Norfolk where she and her partner could enjoy more space, and more land, she saw two small Dexter cows advertised on ebay. She promptly bought them and grazed them on her plot of grass.

She found she enjoyed them so much, she pondered buying more and decided on the Japanese Wagyu breed, known for its very particular and special meat.

Today she has some 35 cattle, renting land from neighbouring farmers to graze them. She sells their meat to local restaurants and direct to customers. And she's relishing being a 'born again farmer'.

This is her story, told simply and clearly, with plenty of anecdotes to keep us amused, and a fair bit of practical detail just in case we wanted to take up farming ourselves!? And it's a tale of community - neighbours and friends are all enlisted to help when cows stray - but also of the great affection farmers, like Sarah, have for the animals in their care. What's more it's a nicely produced book with lovely illustrations on the chapter heads throughout. A lovely read.
