A House Made of Books
by Frankie Gritton

Simon loves books so much that he wants to be surrounded by them, so he starts to build a home entirely from books.

He constructs the floor, walls and roof from books of pictures and poems, stories and songs. With his cat as company, he felt cosy and safe.

One day someone knocks on the door. The doctor had a broken pipe that needed fixing, so Simon found a book that would help. The next day Mr Plum asked for a book about gardening. Soon all the neighbours were coming to Simon to borrow a book. So many people, in fact, that his house was no longer safe and came tumbling down.

Everybody who had borrowed a book from Simon came along to help him rebuild his home. They all knew what to do because they had learnt it all through books. Simon and his friends and neighbours built a strong, sturdy house full of books which they could all enjoy together. A very lovely story!
