This is a wonderful book with a serious message. The author writes at the end about how she met children with the condition she features in the story - Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA-PME).

Frog has always known her younger brother Tad is unwell, but she's never fully appreciated how fragile his health truly is. They've shared a bedroom and do everything together, and she does whatever she can to make life easier for him.

This summer they decide they're going to search for tadpoles and watch them grow into frogs. And their grandfather, who lives with them, is helping them with all they need.

But Tad is taken into hospital and Frog is left to carry on alone. She has to contend with a new, irritating, boy from next door, and her own bedroom now being very lonely and empty.

Camping in the garden brings some solace to Frog as she waits for news of Tad, and eventually he comes home to enjoy all that Frog has experienced without him. But not for long. 

Ultimately this is a very sad book, but it's beautifully and sensitively done and it's a powerful and important message in facing a terminal illness. Beautiful.
