Opal Country
by Chris Hammer

I wasn't familiar with Chris Hammer before this book but, having enjoyed Jane Harper's thrillers in Australia, was keen to give this a try. And loved it!

An opal miner is found crucified underground and a detective comes from the city to investigate. He's joined by an inexperienced investigator Nell Buchanan.

Together they seek to find out what has happened in Finnigans Gap but feelings run deep and not just among the members of this tight community - soon both officers face allegations and internal investigations. Who wants them gone?

The stifling heat and claustrophobic environment is vivid and intense and the characters are intriguing. A compelling and atmospheric page-turner. Can't wait to read another by Chris Hammer.
